5. Superintendent Reports:
..........A. Facility Preliminary Energy Assessments and Recommendations – Presented by James McClure of Estes, McClure & Associates, Inc. The report is that the A/C units in the Elementary and the Middle School’s are 29 years old, and 18 years old in the High School. The ballast for the 4-foot T12 fluorescent lamps will no longer be sold after July 1, 2010. The cost to update all the electrical equipment with a new control system to be fully code compliant would be $2.9 million, with an annual energy savings of $66,000. The maintenance cost for the existing equipment is an unknown dollar amount.
..........B. WHS Students of the Month:
--- Student: Casey Phillips, 12th Grade, presented by Mr. Pinnell. Her Parents are: Theresa & Troy Phillips. Casey is an Honor Roll student, National Honor Society Award winner, volunteer at the Gilbreath Memorial Library, volunteer counselor at church camp, and a three year varsity softball member. Casey plans to major in English/Literature.at Texas A&M – Commerce and then teach at a local high school.
--- Student: Justin Martin, 12th Grade, presented by Mr. Pinnell. His Parents are MiLinda & Pete Martin. Justin is a four year A-B Honor Roll Student, four year BETA club member, FCCLA, Who’s Who Among American High School Students; Received class awards for Health, Environmental Systems, and English III, ranked 10th in class, and commended on TAKS for all years. Also, Justin plays varsity baseball. Justin will be a United States Marine as of July 12, 2010.
..........C. Kudos for Kids, presented by Secretary Sandra Strickland:

Bailey Newsome gets the Kudos this month at WES. Bailey was crowned the Hopkins County Rodeo Committee Princess in the 7 – 10 age group. She was judged in interview skills, horsemanship skills, speech, modeling, photogenic, sportsmanship and the Miss Congeniality portion of the contest. Congratulations to Bailey on this honor.
Winnsboro Middle School
Danielle Yarbrough, a 7th grader at MMS, was invited by Duke University to take the ACT as a 7th grader. She was recommended by Mrs. Clark after having a perfect score on her reading TAKS. Five percent of 7th graders nationwide were invited to take the test. Danielle took the test in December and her composite score was as good or better than 73% of all 7th graders that took the test. She is one of 5,144 of the 14,733 Texas students that will receive recognition at the state level at a ceremony in June. In addition she has been invited to attend a Duke Summer camp. Danielle is the daughter of Kraig and Cindy Yarbrough. MMS is proud of Danielle and her
accomplishments.

..........D. Curriculum Report – WHS UIL Academic Regional Qualifiers Presentation
Mrs. Kyle and Mrs. Allen gave reports on the upcoming UIL Regional competition to be held in Stephenville on April 23rd and April 24th. Mrs. Allen showed a video that defined the various kinds of debates. The Jayne Haney gave her negative debate arguments for the ethical treatment of animals. She also prepared a positive debate for presentation at the competition. She said that three or months research was required to prepare for the debates.
