Wills Point Woman Dies in Hunt County Wreck
20 year old Destiny Carol Osbourne of Wills Point was killed yesterday in a collision at the intersection of FM751 and CR3706 near Quinlan. Troopers say a third vehicle was parked at the intersection and may have obstructed the view, leading to the wreck. Two people suffered non – life threatening injuries. (Reported: 2004-09-14, by dk)

Two Killed In OK Wreck
Two people are dead following an accident over the weekend in McCurtain County. Troopers say Stephanie Alexander of Eagle Town was driving east on Highway 70 when she swerved to miss a slow moving car, went over the center line, striking another vehicle, driven by Jimmy Rugz of Broken Bow. Both Alexander and Rugz were pronounced dead at the scene. Rugz` passenger, Shane White, is in critical condition. (Reported: 2004-09-14, by dk)

Game Rooms Robbed
Law enforcement agencies in northeast Texas are investigating possible links to armed robberies at 8-liner game rooms in the area. Robberies have been reported in Hunt, Rains and Van Zandt counties over the past several weeks. (Reported: 2004-09-14, by dk)

New County Judge For Van Zandt County
Van Zandt County Commissioners have named Rita Koches to be the interim County Judge. She’ll replace Jeff Fisher who resigned to be political director of the Republican Party of Texas. Mrs. Koches is chief of staff for State Representative Dan Flynn. (Reported: 2004-09-14, by dk)

Hunt County Disbands Waco Bay VFD
Hunt County Commissioners yesterday voted to suspend all funding for the Waco Bay Volunteer Fire Department. The department has now been disbanded, and West Tawakoni and Quinlan will now cover that area. (Reported: 2004-09-14, by dk)

Greenville Woman Indicted
27 year old Amanda Leigh McCreanor of Greenville has been indicted for count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. She allegedly smuggled prescription medications in from Mexico and distributed them to school students and other individuals in Greenville, Commerce, Royse City, Caddo Mills and Campbell. TEA To Oversee New Diana ISD
The TEA has appointed Dr. Fred Zachary to be a monitor over the The New Diana ISD administration and board of trustees. The district will lose about $130,000 in state aid this year because they paid former Superintendent Dan Noll $234,000 to retire five years early. (Reported: 2004-09-14, by dk)

Men Jailed For Spitting In Officer's Drink
Two young men have been charged with felonies after one of them allegedly spat in a drink he was serving to a Lufkin police officer at a drive in. Both are charged with second-degree felony tampering with a consumer product and face up to 20 years in prison. (Reported: 2004-09-14, by dk)

Murder Suicide In Smith County
The names were not released on an elderly couple on FM-346 who were found yesterday in Smith County. It is being investigated as a murder suicide after a note was found. The wife was shot and the husband was found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning. The note state the two had lost an large sum of money to a scam artist and mounting medical concerns. Winnsboro Receives Grant
Agriculture Commissioner Susan Combs says $150,000 was awarded to Winnsboro’s main street development. The project was celebrated last weekend and is now complete giving Winnsboro a pleasant experience for its visitors and shoppers. (Reported: 2004-09-14, by cc)

Have You Ever Lost A Giraffe?
Hugh Barnhart of Longview did. The animals were taken from the Putt-Putt Golf and Games and found broken in some woods by kids ridding 4-wheelers. Police think that a picture posted to a Web site could help identify the suspects who stole the two fiberglass animals. (Reported: 2004-09-14, by cc)

Paris Robbery Suspect Arraigned
19-year-old Tremaine Kellum of Paris was arraigned on charges of attempted capital murder, aggravated robbery, possession of a controlled substance, felon in possession of a firearm and felony fleeing. All of that over a Friday night incident during which he pointed a gun at Paris Police officers and got shot in the leg, fled in a car and crashed and was accused of robbery. Two Arrested In Paris Burglary
Paris police arrested 18-year-old Erick Adams and 40-year-old Margarita Juarez after following a trail that led from a burglary to a house on 17th SE. Officers recovered numerous items stolen in recent burglaries including reptiles, spiders and other animals from a pet store burglary. If you would like your voice to be heard in choosing our next President, you must be registered by Oct. 4th. If you aren’t signed up by that time, you won’t get a registration card and cannot cast your ballot in the Nov. 2nd election. You can register at your County Courthouse. Tyler Man Shoots Wife Kills Self
Tyler police say an elderly man fatally shot his wife and then took his own life by carbon monoxide poisoning after falling victim to a financial scam. A note was found by the man’s body explaining the scam and citing failing health. The case is being investigated as a murder and a suicide. (Reported: 2004-09-14, by dj)

Subject Of Amber Alert Sends Letter To Mom
12-year-old Jami Hicks, the subject of an Amber Alert this past week, has sent her mother a letter indicating that she believes she is on a vacation with her stepfather. Ivan Update
Forecasters say Hurricane Ivan, which strengthened back to a Category 5 storm could strike somewhere along the Gulf Coast by Wednesday after striking Cuba. They advised residents of the Gulf Coast from west-central Florida to Louisiana to be leery of the Category 5 storm that already had killed at least 65 people. (Reported: 2004-09-13, by dk)

Shooting Victim Arraigned
Two Paris police officers are on paid leave after shooting 19 year old Tremaine Kellum, who they say pointed a gun at them Friday night. The suspect was shot twice in the leg and is in stable condition. Kellum was arraigned yesterday at the hospital on charges of attempted capital murder, aggravated robbery, possession of a controlled substance,felon in possession of a firearm and felony fleeing. His injuries are not life threatening and he should be transferred from the hospital to the Lamar County jail shortly. (Reported: 2004-09-13, by dk)

Paris Police Nab Burglars
Paris police were called to a burglary early Saturday morning on SE 17th street and followed a trail left by the suspects to a house next door. Officers recovered numerous items stolen in recent burglaries including animals and critters stolen from a pet store. Arrested were 40 year old Margarita Juarez and 18 year old Erick Adams of Paris. Paris Council To Meet Monday NIght
The Paris City Council will meet at 6 this evening at the Love Civic Center to hear reports from committees, boards and commissions and to hold a public hearing on proposed amendments to the 2005 budget. Cumby Man Killed
42 year old Ricky Lynn Hulshouser of Cumby was killed Saturday evening in a one vehicle wreck on FM 275, about a mile south of Cumby. Troopers say his vehicle left the roadway, overcorrected and ejected him. (Reported: 2004-09-13, by dk)

Franklin County Drug Bust
State Trooper Jason Graham pulled a vehicle over for making an unsafe lane change at the 152 mile marker of I-30 Saturday afternoon. A search of the vehicle turned up 150 pounds of suspected marijuana, and an Ohio man was arrested. (Reported: 2004-09-13, by dk)

Drug Money Seized
Trooper Chuck Cannon pulled a vehicle over for a traffic violation on the Westbound Lane of I-30 in Titus County yesterday afternoon at about 4:30. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of $124,000 in suspected drug money. (Reported: 2004-09-13, by dk)

Fire Destroys Como Home
Fire destroyed a home yesterday morning on Highway 11 East at CR 2351S near Como. No one was at home at the time of the blaze. Authorities believe the fire may have been deliberately set and the State Fire Marshall’s office will investigate. (Reported: 2004-09-13, by dk)

Weekend Voting Results
Sulphur Springs ISD voters overwhelmingly rejected the districts $33 million bond proposals over the weekend. The larger, $29 milllion proposal that would have funded a new elementary school and renovations at virtually every campus failed about 2 – 1. The $3.5 million proposal for an indoor multi-purpose facility lost nearly 4-1. Lone Oak voters voted down the sale of beer and wine.Frankston ISD residents voted down a $10.5 million bond election, which would have paid for a new elementary school, cafeteria and gym. Van Zandt Deputies Search For Armed Robber
Authorities in Van Zandt County are on the lookout for a man they say robbed the Safari Tea Room on Hwy 19 at US 80 at at gunpoint last night. Authorities say it's the second time the suspect has pulled off a robbery at an 8 liner business in less than a week. The suspect has also been seen in the Edgewood and Grand Saline area. Athens Man Treated For Rabies

Man Arrested For Not Tipping
41 year old Humberto Taveras put his money where his mouth is and ended up arrested, accused of leaving an inadequate tip at a restaurant in New York. He faces a misdemeanor charge of theft of services after he and his fellow diners argued over the legality of requiring an 18 percent tip for large parties. (Reported: 2004-09-13, by dk)

Paris Police Shoot Robbery Suspect
Two Paris police officers are on a normal paid suspension after shooting 19-year-old Tremaine Kellum Friday night around 10 pm. Kellum was asked several times to drop his weapon at an apartment complex where he was a suspect in a possible attempted robbery after police were called about a disturbance at the location. He took off in a stolen car after being shot in the leg. Kellum crashed the vehicle and was in stable condition Saturday. (Reported: 2004-09-13, by dj)

Suspect Arrested In Hugo Murder
22-year-old Vet Sentrel Colbert was arrested Sunday for the murder of David Moore in Hugo Friday morning. Hugo Police and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation gathered enough evidence for an arrest warrant after Colbert’s car was found near his mother’s home in Grant just south of Hugo. Gary Young Named Interim Lamar County Attorney
Gary Young was named interim Lamar County Attorney today in Commissioners Court. He will fill the rest of the term on Mark Burtner who resigned officially today but has been gone a week on a new job in El Paso. Lamar County Commissioners Hold Public Hearing On Tax Rate Increase
The Lamar County Commissioners met this morning at 9:00 to hold a public hearing on a 15.1% tax rate increase. Lamar County Judge Chuck Superville has proposed a derease in the increase that will allow the county to get in under the roll-back rate thus eliminating the need for a general election. Child Dies After Being Run Over
6-year-old Jacob Hester of Denison died Saturday after he was run over Friday evening. Hester was hurt when he couldn’t stop his skateboard and went out into the street where 83-year-old James Cox did not see the little boy and he was run over. (Reported: 2004-09-13, by dj)

Amber Alert Cancelled
Authorities continued to search for a missing North Texas girl on Sunday, but they canceled an Amber Alert that had been issued for her in South Carolina after they were unable to confirm any new sightings there. Police have been looking for 12-year-old Jami Hicks since Sept. 4, when her mother reported she was missing from her home in Mesquite. Authorities believe Jami is with her stepfather, James Hudachek. Ivan Being Watched By U.S. Gulf Cost
Ivan weakened and then woke up this morning as a Category 5 storm again with 160 mph winds. The giant circle has left 62 people dead that were in its path. The land touching the Gulf of Mexico is now doing more than watching. The government of Mexico issued a hurricane warning for the northeastern Yucatan Peninsula. Sulphur Springs ISD’s $33 million bond election was voted down Saturday 2-to-1. The bond election was being requested by the trustees to renovate and build several projects.
