CITY MANAGER REPORT July 13, 2010 To: Mayor and City Council members
The City received a request from Sharon Water Supply Corporation indicating they want to renew the water purchase contract with the City for emergency use. We will have this on the August agenda for Council approval. The staff will continue with the budget process with the City Council workshops beginning July 28th at 2:00pm. Waiting to hear from Mike Burns with KSA Engineering on funds (Federal Aviation Administration non-primary entitlement) that the City has available for airport improvements which includes a new card reader system for the self-service gas, rehabilitation of 2550 SY of hangar access taxiway, new wind sock structure, new 20’ security gates with operators and repaint doors on t-hangars. NPE grant funds for general aviation airports listed in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) for maintenance work. General aviation airports can each receive up to $150,000 per year based on the FAA assessment of maintenance needs over a 5-year period. The City is continuing discussions with two lodging prospects that have shown interest in 7 locations throughout the community. The hotel feasibility study that was funded by the WEDC has come in very helpful for this project and was requested by one of the prospects. The City’s Main Street has applied for the Texas Downtown Association award, this application is for the “Best Marketing Program”. They are submitting the Winnsboro Portal project, which is a great aid to our downtown and local merchants. The 3rd Friday and Crazy Daze continues to be a success. The merchants downtown have indicated a high sales volume. Thanks to each of you as always for your continued support and advice.
