RON PAUL SUPPORTERS IN WINNSBORO
by

On Saturday, November 3rd, a small, but enthusiastic group of people gathered at The Depot to become charter members of the Winnsboro "Ron Paul Meet-Up Group." There are over a thousand such groups across the country that have formed to support Dr. Ron Paul in his bid for the Republican nomination for President of the United States.

The event was coordinated by Karl and Nancy Falster of Winnsboro and sponsored by Robert Watters, who owns McCrary's Hardware & General Store.

Karl started the evening with a prayer, then spoke about the candidate, what he has accomplished in Congress, and what he plans to accomplish as President, most notably, giving the country back to the people. "The Ron Paul campaign is about freedom to live life, making an honest living for oneself and putting an end to the gut wrenching direct taxation from the federal government."

Other key points he made included:

** Ron Paul has never voted to raise taxes

** Ron Paul has never voted for an unbalanced budget

** Ro Paul has never voted to raise congressional pay

** Ron Paul has never taken a government-paid junket

John & Dane Desherow of Yantis attended the rally and have pledged their support for Ron Paul. "I didn't know who Ron Paul was until last week," John, who prefers the nickname "Top" said. "We met Nancy at the booth out at the swap meet at here last Saturday where they had a booth with material about Ron Paul. Once she started telling me about him, I realized he stands for all the things I do and he's against all the things I am."

It wasn't surprising that there were a number of retired military men and women at the event. Ron Paul has the strongest support from the military than any other candidate. He has also amassed tremendous grassroots support that helped him raise 1.2 million dollars for his campaign in just 6 days. Karl noted that the average donation was $40.00 per person. "In a day of corporate corruption, extortion, and huge sums of illegal foreign campaign contributions," he said, "thousands of moms, pops and their offspring gave over a million dollars to a man pledged to put their nation back ont he road to prosperity through the re-establishment of the U.S. Constitution as the law of the land."

About thirty people attended the event, including Dr. Paul's brother, Wayne and his wife, Donna. They came from Avinger, Texas to talk a little about the personal side of Dr. Ron Paul. "He was always a student," Wayne said. "He read economics and believed that people should be left alone when it comes to their finances."

Wayne also said his brother is a man of integrity with strong and unwavering beliefs. "When he was getting ready to run for Congress in 1976, he wrote a letter to Donna and attached a copy of his political platform," Wayne said. "She recently found that letter with the platform still attached and we read it. It hasn't changed. What Ron stood for in 1976, he stands for today, and will stand for tomorrow."

Donna seconded her husband's endorsement saying, "In the years I worked for him (12) I gained respect for him as a gentle and kind physician. Since then, I have gained respect for him as a statesman. A politician worries about the next election. A statesman worries about what we are leaving for the next generation."

Part of the evening included a raffle for a signed copy of Ron Paul's book "A Foreign Policy Of Freedom" Micheline Morris of Winnsboro won the raffle and accepted the book from Karl Falster.
