WALK YOURSELF HEALTHY

Residents in and around Winnsboro can now enjoy a refurbished walking path thanks to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Foundation and City National Bank. The path is named for City National Bank in recognition of them being the lead sponsor of the effort to complete the track renovations. Employees at Texas Health Winnsboro also contributed a considerable amount in 2008 through the Associates Campaign. which is an annual giving program that enables employees to fund projects that benefit their hospital.

A ribbon cutting and open house was held on April 7th for the new walking path, which is located on the hospital grounds. It was a cold, blustery day, but a number of brave souls showed up for the celebration that included a BBQ lunch catered by Bodacious BBQ.

Kelly Counts, Director of Major Gifts for the Foundation said she was pleased with the turn-out and also commended everyone who has helped so far in the renovations of the old track. "With the help of hospital employees, volunteers, and the community we have been able to extend the track and get the paving," she said. "We are now in the process of raising the rest of the money to complete the project."

First on the list is lighting, and from there they will see what they can do for landscaping and other amenities.

In attendance that day were executives from City National Bank, L-R: Lee Treats, Shannon Melton, Sue Horshem, and John Sellers. They had the honor of cutting the cake.

Also enjoying the afternoon were James and Nick Monk, sons of Mike and Shannon Monk. The boys had a good time with the wind-whirleys that were part of the decorations for the event.

Patsy Youngs, acting administrator for Texas Health Winnsboro said that spearheading the effort to improve the track fits with the hospital's overall mission, which is, "To improve the health of the people in the communities we serve."

Texas Health Winnsboro invites members of the community to come use the quarter-mile long, asphalt track as part of their exercise routine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that adults spend at least 2 hours and 30 minutes exercising each week. Walking is a free, and easy, way to exercise without needing any special equipment.
