SUMMER FUN AT THE LIBRARY

Over 140 people -- mostly kids -- were entertained at Gilbreath Memorial Library on Friday by a pair of zany and talented young men, David and Devin Slick.  For over an hour, the two juggling brothers put as many smiles on the faces of the parents and other adults as on the faces of the youngsters.

Actually, the two Slicks juggled balls, game pins, discs, and knives, individually and as a team.  David, (R) who is 21, also performed on stilts. on a unicycle, and did magic tricks as well as juggle, involving the happy audience as participants.  19-year-old Devin also juggled and assisted in getting audience volunteers to help with the acts that included jumping rope on the unicycle.

The Slick brothers live in Dallas, bur originally came from Oklahoma about 12 years ago.  David is completing his studies at the University of Dallas with a major in Elementary Education.  He began performing in 2002 and since then has traveled throughout the United States and in China where he was an intern, teaching English and doing street performances for the Chinese children.

He loves teaching and enjoys developing new performance gizmos as well as playing chess.

Devin, standing with some of the children watching his brother juggle in the picture on the left, is studying computer software engineering at UT Arlington, where he also wrestles and is in the ROTC as well as being in the Army Reserves.

Both brothers have a knack for making children have fun and they sure did that on Friday.

After thanking the Slick brothers and the audience, Librarian Vicky Friday encouraged the children to participate in the summer reading program and also to return for more summer fun on  July 9th at 1:30 for "Wildlife on the Move" (getting up close and personal with pythons, caiman, turtles, and other reptiles); and on July 25th at 2 PM for "Lucky's Wonderland" with Lucky the Clown doing magic, ventriloquism, and comedy.
